Not Sure Where to Start?
Yes. For contact sports, they can simply remove their aligners and wear a standard mouthguard. For non-contact sports, the aligners can stay in and actually provide a layer of protection. This flexibility is a huge advantage over metal braces, which often require potential expensive specialized mouthguards and carry a risk of lip cuts.
None at all. Your teen removes the aligners to eat, so they can still enjoy popcorn, pizza, nuts, and crunchy apples—foods that are typically off-limits with traditional braces. They just need to brush their teeth before putting the aligners back in.
We know life happens. The Invisalign Teen system includes up to six free replacement aligners specifically for this reason. If an aligner is lost, let us know immediately so we can order a replacement and keep treatment on track.
Invisalign Teen aligners have discreet blue compliance indicators on the molars. These fade from blue to clear as the aligners are worn. This simple visual check helps parents and our team confirm that the aligners are being worn for the recommended 20–22 hours a day.
Invisalign Teen is designed for teens who have lost all their baby teeth, typically age 12 and older. Its eruption tabs specifically accommodate second molars (12-year molars) that are still developing. If your younger teen still has some baby teeth or is early in the mixed dentition phase, Invisalign First (designed for ages 6–10) may be more appropriate. We'll evaluate your teen's individual dental development at your consultation to recommend the right treatment option.
Most teens find Invisalign much more comfortable than metal braces. There are no sharp brackets or poking wires. There may be mild pressure for a day or two when switching to a new set of aligners, but this is a sign that the teeth are moving correctly and usually fades quickly.
