Not Sure Where to Start?
Traditional dentures typically last 5–8 years before they need replacement. Over time, the jawbone naturally shrinks after tooth loss, causing the denture to fit looser and looser. Regular relining (every 1–2 years) can extend comfort between replacements.
Implant-supported dentures last significantly longer, often 15–25 years, because the implants prevent bone loss and the denture retains its fit. The implant posts themselves can last a lifetime with proper care.
It is generally recommended that you remove traditional dentures at night. Removing them allows your gum tissue to rest and recover, and helps prevent bacterial buildup that can lead to gum irritation or infections like denture stomatitis.
Implant-supported snap-on dentures can also be removed at night, which is advisable for cleaning. However, fixed implant-retained arches (such as All-on-4) are never removed, they are permanent and cleaned like natural teeth.
Modern dentures look far more natural than older generations. At Innova Smiles, we work with high-quality dental labs that craft dentures with individualized tooth shapes, custom shading, and lifelike gum-colored acrylic bases that complement your skin tone and facial features.
Implant-supported dentures tend to look the most natural because they sit at the proper height and have adequate support from the underlying bone structure, avoiding the 'flat' look that can occur when bone loss changes the lower face.
Traditional dentures rest on the gums and are held in place by suction and/or dental adhesive. They are removable, more affordable upfront, and can be made quickly. However, they can slip, limit your diet, and do nothing to prevent jawbone loss over time.
Implant-supported dentures are anchored to two to six titanium implants surgically placed in your jawbone. They snap or lock into place and feel far more secure. They stimulate the bone to prevent shrinkage and typically do not require adhesive. They cost more upfront but often prove more cost-effective long-term due to their longevity and the elimination of relining and replacement costs.
Most dental insurance plans include some coverage for dentures as a major restorative procedure, typically paying 50% after deductible up to an annual maximum. Coverage varies widely by plan.
Implant-supported dentures are partially covered by some plans, the prosthetic portion may be covered even if the implant surgery itself is not. Our team at Innova Smiles will verify your benefits and provide a detailed breakdown before treatment begins. We also accept CareCredit and Cherry financing to make any out-of-pocket balance manageable.
Immediate dentures can be placed the same day teeth are extracted, so you are never without teeth. However, immediate dentures are considered a temporary solution, as your gums heal and shrink over the following weeks and months, the fit changes and the denture will need relining or replacement with a permanent denture.
For implant-supported dentures using an All-on-4 technique, a temporary fixed arch is often delivered the same day as implant surgery. This temporary arch is then replaced with a final custom restoration after 3–6 months of healing. So in the sense that you leave with teeth in one day, yes, it is possible.
